Education
One of the things that makes the Columbus Region such a great place to live is its access to high-quality education. From The Ohio State University (the No. 17 Best Public School in the country, according to U.S. News & World Report) to St. Charles Preparatory School (a 100-year-old all-male private Catholic college preparatory high school), residents will find no shortage of quality educational institutions from which to choose.

Grade, Middle & High Schools
The Columbus Region is home to an abundance of city and suburban school options, from public to private and STEM to vocational. There are 21 public high schools in Columbus alone, with 80-plus high schools across the region. The region boats 67 public school districts that together enroll more than 300,000 students. Additionally, the region’s four-year, high school graduation rate is 93%, with 61% of students choosing to move onto college afterwards. But how to find the right one for you and your family?
If you go the public route, you can choose to participate in Columbus City Schools’ School Choice Lottery, which allows families to put their child’s name in for possible admission to three area schools. You can learn more about each school at a School Choice Fair. The high school/middle school fair typically takes place in early January while the elementary school fair happens in early to mid-February.
However, another option for parents is a private school education. These schools include Columbus Academy (an independent, co-educational kindergarten-through-12th grade school in Gahanna), the Columbus School for Girls (a preschool-through-12th college preparatory school for girls), Columbus Torah Academy (a Modern Orthodox Jewish kindergarten-through-12th grade school), Bishop Hartley High School (a private, Catholic high school) and St. Charles Preparatory School.
Colleges & Universities
The Ohio State University (and don’t forget the “The”!) is the region’s most famous university, as well as the largest university in state. It’s known for its medical, engineering and business schools, but many students also choose it for its education, law and public affairs programs. Outside of OSU, though, you’ll also find many other award-winning private and public colleges and universities, as well as many technical colleges.
