A Berry Sweet Event

Kick summer off with the sweetness of strawberries

By Joe Frye

Summer will kick off with a little bit of sweetness and a lot of strawberries this weekend with the Strawberry Jam at Land Grant Brewing. A so-called “celebration of Ohio strawberry season,” the event will feature beer, ice cream and, of course, strawberries.

Kicking off on Saturday morning, the event will run through Sunday night and include food, drinks, music, a vendor market and more. The celebration is a collaboration between many of Columbus’ staple restaurants and bakeries. As the sweet, succulent strawberry comes into season, these businesses look to highlight the fruit in their products. Perhaps most notably, at Jeni’s Ice Cream, the strawberry buttermilk flavor will return. As the first host of the Strawberry Jam, Jeni’s release of its summer flavor is one of the signature kickoffs of the season.

Other strawberry products available this weekend include the products at Hirsch Fruit Farm. In addition to being Jeni’s official strawberry supplier, the farm will also provide the event with cartons full of fresh fruit for visitors to enjoy. Meanwhile, Fox in the Snow, the Columbus coffee shop, will serve up its strawberry shortcake. Perhaps the most exclusive offering of the event, this pastry is only available during these two days and won’t return until next year’s jam. The host of the event, Land Grant Brewing, will even be releasing their own summer libation: the strawberry rhubarb ale.

For those looking to soak up all the strawberry-flavored fun, Land Grant will offer private cabanas with food and drink delivery options. More information and a full list of vendors are available on Land Grant’s website.
